A pub has stood on this site since 1733. Originally called The Catherine’s Wheel, it became St James Tavern when the current building, including its specially designed tiles, was erected in 1896. Frequented by celebrities, such as Charles Dickens and Dick Turpin, it still attracts famous names from nearby theatres.
